A small town located in the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico, Las Coloradas is known for the pink lakes built by the local salt factory for salt production. The bright pink colour is caused by the presence of microorganisms - plankton and algae - in the water.
You can no longer swim in the pink lakes, but there are beautiful blue beaches on the coast as you drive up from Cancun. Do watch out for the massive salt trucks on the road
