A Canadian citizen, Timmy Joe Elzinga from northern Ontario, has captured some amazing pics of a light show so unique, it could be even called alien!
He managed to capture a ring of brilliant shafts of pastel-colored lights in the wee hours of the morning of Jan 6, 2017, by using only his smartphone camera, and when temperatures were way below zero.

Elzinga himself has said,
When I first saw these light beams shooting through the sky from my bathroom window, I was sure they were the northern lights. I was able to capture these images both because the lights were so bright and pronounced and because I'm a bit of an amateur photographer.
The light pillars are so strange-looking that people could mistake them for UFOs, but they are not. It seems it is a natural phenomena which could be explained off as a display of nature, caused under different circumstances than that of other "light show" like the Aurora Borealis.
And according to NASA, the beams resemble so-called sun pillars, which appear as columns of light extending from the sun due to light reflecting off ice crystals in the upper atmosphere.
