Whether venomous or not, Snakes are human Arch-enemies!
Our fear of snakes is beyond imagination, it is hot wired, programmed from inception. Scientifically; Snakes and Spiders the most shivers down our spines.
But there is more to the fear and enmity between snakes and humans than just "evolutionary default programming". Spiritually speaking; It was ordained since the beginning of time when the serpent made Eve eat the forbidden fruit!
Culled From the Holy Bible, here is the curse/spell on the Snake:
And i will put enmity between you and the woman; and between your seed and her seed. He shall bruise you on the head and you shall bruise him on the heel...Genesis 3:15(Bible Hub)

"Her seeds" here, means us humans. So putting all scientific and evolutionary enmity aside, there was a curse placed on our slithering-scaly crawling friend or foe! Which arguably explains the fierce hatred between man and snakes.

My close Encounter with Snake Bite:
Not all snake bites will kill you, but a snake bite is a snake bite and trust me; they are very nasty stings. I have seen many snake attacks, i have rescued a boy back in my high school days. After rushing him to a near by clinic in Offa Kwara State Nigeria, where the anti-venom was not available until after several hours.
How the boy, Kenny by name survived remained a mystery to me, all-in-all; the lad was given an anti-venom injection about 5 hours or there about after the snake bite.
