I took this photo just as the sun was coming up. You'll notice the mist rising from the water that is still open and not frozen. We have had cold temperatures. It's been -16 Celsius or 3.2 Fahrenheit and this is what the river looks like after only 48 hours in these cold temperatures. The mist is visible because the water is open and is condensing as the water is warmer than the air.
The water trails in the ice are caused from the ice cracking, then the water seeps up and eventually freezes. Where the river is deeper and the current is faster, the water will take longer to freeze.
We have snow again. I think this snow will stay now because our outside temperature is so frigid.
I took this photo a few minutes later and you'll notice the sun is rising in the sky.
The photo (below) shows the water trails. The ice cracks because of expanding and contracting due to fluctuations in temperature. When the ice cracks it is quite loud and you can hear it...even inside the house.
A white blanket of snow is covering everything.
I took these photos with my LG 3G cell phone.
I welcome your comments and I invite you to follow me on my journey...you will need a parka. ;)
