This gnarly dude made his (or her?) home right in our outdoor kitchen. He is HUGE!!!
We have A LOT of spiders this season. As long as they're not on a major walkway, we usually leave them be because they don't bother anybody and help control some of the more annoying bug populations.
Most of the spiders I know are nocturnal. They set up their webs at night for primo bug catching/feasting, then take them down in the day time to disappear without a trace.
I'm grateful these orb weavers set up shop around the clock - now I know where he's hanging out! Could you imagine walking through this and catching one with your face in the dark of night??
