It is now time for the migratory birds to arrive and start building nests. Last week, I saw a black eagle trying to rest on one of our trees, and the sounds it made alarmed me because it sounded desperate. It was as if the bird was calling out to its mate nearby that something had happened or was about to happen. Soon, the bird flew away with its huge wings. The birds came back and settled down on the same branch, the next day and at the same time. It was interesting to note that it was the same time. I am not sure what it means but after that, it did not come back.
This week, I did not see any birds but could hear the sound of geese. Hereabouts, we usually see storks of mixed colors, and only during this season. It could possibly be the migratory birds. I searched online for the black eagle and found that it was common in Asia.
Eagles have visited our place before. There are snakes and other small animals and perhaps, these huge birds arrive to catch prey. Rabbits, mongoose, rats, and smaller birds are plenty in these parts. We do live near the forests and so, it is not uncommon. The fruit trees in the locality are what attracts birds and the paddy attracts the parakeet.
A bird watcher would find it very interesting and there is no disturbance from city lights. However, the area is not entirely free of road traffic as the road is now being regularly used by vehicles that use it to reach several companies situated nearby.
The paddy fields are now being tilled to start cultivation. The seeds will soon be planted but before that, it is a feast for the storks because the worms come up when the soil is being tilled.
Once, we had small budgerigars in the nest and it used to attract a lot of birds that tried to poke their beaks to try and attack the poor birds. It was horrible to witness the small birds being attacked and soon, we stopped growing these lovely birds. I did grow fish in a tank in my house long back but the sudden entry of a particular fish disrupted the others and soon, all the fish died.
The thing to remember is that if we grow fish or birds, the environment should be perfect otherwise, it can have disastrous effects and it will be a heartbreak. Even dogs are attacked by ill-meaning people. So, when raising pets, always be extra careful.
Coming back to the topic, make sure to observe whether you can see migratory birds around or just glance up at the sky. You might be able to watch flocks flying by during the evening time when the sun is about to set. It is a wonderful sight to watch and reminds you of the wonders of nature.
