Apollonia lies on the western ridge. The cliff that stretches along the Sharon coast contains neighborhoods of Kokhrat (sandstone, limestone) hamra and sand.
At the top of the cliff, which crumbles over a small natural harbor, people settled about 2000 years ago, and this began the fascinating history of Apollonia.
the first settlement on the site was founded by the Phoenicians at the end of the 6th century CE (the Persian period), and the Phoenicians called the place Asharof after one of their God, Reshef, the God of War and Storm. They took advantage of the day as the anchor for ships traded with the Ionian world.
