I have been encountering Bigg's orca almost daily these last few days and sometimes they have been right off the waterfront of Victoria, BC. Yesterday, we picked up a family of Bigg's orca known as the T18's and the big male you see in this photo has a very unique dorsal fin, which does make him to easily identify - T19b.
Here they went straight into hunt mode along the shoreline looking for lunch in the form of a harbour seal along the shallow kelp beds. It appeared from the brief moment we were there that they didn't find anything they were looking for and began to move onto another known seal haul-out area. There it looked like this family of 4 orca got a few fast meals before continuing further north towards Vancouver.
