Cottonwood Seed
The cottonwood is also known as the poplar.
It is a tall tree with a spreading crown, named for its cotton-like seeds.
Plenty of people sneeze a lot due to these cottonwood seeds falling out of the trees in the spring.
The local saying is, "The Cottonwood is Flying!"
They make me sneeze; but not too bad!
This tree is in the front yard of a home near my house and is about 75 ft tall and 40 or more years old!
Isn't the bark interesting?
We have a creek that runs through our neighborhood called Cottonwood Creek.
I know it has a lot of Cottonwoods growing along it;
so I guess that is how it got its name.
Here's more interesting information about Cottonwood Trees and how the pioneers used them.
