Blow Flies
Blow Flies is the common name for Bottle Flies. There are many different species that can be found worldwide and the ones found here in the U.S. can be metallic blue, green, gold, or black. I found a blue one and a gold one.
These flies are larger than house flies and are attracted dead animal carcasses. You will find their babies on these animal carcasses, which are called maggots. Adult blow flies feed on plant sap, nectar from flowers and other sugary substances.
Look at the size of their eyes.
I was happy to capture this one rubbing its legs together.
Thanks for looking!
