Un nuevo encuentro con la Pavo Real blanco // A new encounter with the White Peacock

Esta es la primera publicación con la que deseo participar en este concurso así que quisiera comentarles que cotidianamente disfruto mucho las visitas que realizo a mi jardín, donde tenemos algunas plantas ornamentales y frutales. Aprovecho para tomar el sol mientras riego las plantas y observo el avance de su crecimiento. Estos paseos cotidianos se ven animados, a veces, por la inesperada visita de algunas variedades de mariposas que me invitan a seguir su recorrido, que en ocasiones es veloz, y me tientan a capturar sus imágenes, si no corren al percibir mi presencia.

This is the first publication with which I wish to participate in this contest, so I would like to tell you that I enjoy very much the daily visits I make to my garden, where we have some ornamental plants and fruit trees. I take the opportunity to sunbathe while I water the plants and observe the progress of their growth. These daily walks are sometimes enlivened by the unexpected visit of some varieties of butterflies that invite me to follow their path, which is sometimes fast, and tempt me to capture their images, if they do not run when they perceive my presence.

La pasada semana, he tenido la suerte y la dicha de recibir, nuevamente, la visita de la mariposa, cuya variedad, es la más simpática con la que me he encontrado hasta el momento. Se trata de la mariposa Pavo Real blanco o Anartia jatrophae que le gusta frecuentar mi jardín, alegrándome el día y permitiéndome capturar su bella imagen. No es la primera oportunidad que nos visita pero, en esta ocasión, escogió posar para la cámara de mi teléfono en diferentes ubicaciones. Creo que quizás intentó desalentarme en mi búsqueda de su belleza o, simplemente, buscaba tomar la energía de la luz solar.

Last week, I have had the good fortune and joy of receiving, once again, the visit of the butterfly, whose variety is the nicest I have encountered so far. It is the White Peacock or Anartia jatrophae butterfly that likes to frequent my garden, brightening my day and allowing me to capture its beautiful image. This is not the first opportunity she has visited but, on this occasion, she chose to pose for my phone camera in different locations. I think perhaps he was trying to discourage me in my pursuit of his beauty or, simply, he was looking to take in the energy of the sunlight.

Para mí fue una experiencia diferente a las anteriores porque, ante la tranquilidad que exhibió esta bella mariposa ante mi presencia, tuve el tiempo necesario para disfrutar de su belleza desprendiéndome del deseo por obtener sus imágenes, sólo disfrutando plenamente de su hermosa presencia. En ese momento, ante su esplendorosa belleza, quise priorizar la vivencia de ese momento y diferir, por unos minutos, el ejercicio fotográfico: quería mantener en mi recuerdo ese momento y que las fotos sirvieran, como un instrumento secundario, como una evidencia de ese momento.

For me it was a different experience from the previous ones because, before the tranquility that this beautiful butterfly exhibited in my presence, I had the necessary time to enjoy its beauty, detaching myself from the desire to obtain its images, just fully enjoying its beautiful presence. At that moment, in front of its splendorous beauty, I wanted to prioritize the experience of that moment and defer, for a few minutes, the photographic exercise: I wanted to keep that moment in my memory and that the photos would serve, as a secondary instrument, as an evidence of that moment.

Y es que no podía ser de otra manera, las ubicaciones que escogió la Pavo Real blanco para posarse, permitían que la luz solar le iluminara haciendo destacar el color grisáceo de la mayor parte de su superficie superior y se destacan muy bien el toque de naranja que tienen al borde de sus alas. Primero se posó en la pared, para pasar a una hoja de una mata de cambur o banano, Musa paradisiaca y, por último, sobre las flores de Ixora, Ixora coccinea. Luego, como siempre, se fue con un vuelo zigzagueante y más rápido que el que había realizado durante el tiempo que compartimos.

And it could not be otherwise, the locations chosen by the White Peacock to perch, allowed the sunlight to illuminate it, highlighting the grayish color of most of its upper surface and highlighting very well the touch of orange that they have at the edge of their wings. First it landed on the wall, to move on to a leaf of a cambur or banana bush, Musa paradisiaca and, finally, on the flowers of Ixora, Ixora coccinea. Then, as always, he left with a zigzagging and faster flight than he had done during the time we shared.

Al día siguiente, cerca del mediodía, desde la ventana la vi regresar y posarse sobre la Santa María o Lippia alba. Con ella volvió el ímpetu por mirarla y fotografiarla así que, teléfono en mano, salí a su encuentro. En esta oportunidad vino acompañada de una mariposa más pequeña que no he podido identificar aún su especie. Estuvo aproximadamente una hora saltando de flor en flor y, en ocasiones, sobre las hojas así que pude observar que tenía sus alas inferiores deteriorada quizás como muestra de las aventuras vividas desde nuestro anterior encuentro el día anterior. Esta vez, quien se fue primero fui yo. Ya el sol estaba fuerte y me invitaba a que buscara sombra y agua fresca.

The next day, around noon, from the window I saw her return and perch on the Santa María or Lippia alba. With it came back the urge to look at it and photograph it, so, phone in hand, I went out to meet it. This time she was accompanied by a smaller butterfly that I have not yet been able to identify its species. It spent about an hour jumping from flower to flower and, at times, on the leaves so I could observe that it had its lower wings deteriorated perhaps as a sign of the adventures lived since our previous encounter the day before. This time, I was the one who left first. The sun was already strong and invited me to seek shade and fresh water.

Así que, ya no volví a ver más a la Pavo Real blanco. Esperaré por otro momento como estos con otra de su especie que quiera venir a mi jardín a disfrutar de sus flores y a posar para mí. En ese momento recordaré que antes de fotografiarla dedicaré unos minutos a disfrutar de la hermosa experiencia de poder observar de cerca tan bella mariposa.

So, I did not see the White Peacock anymore. I will wait for another time like this with another of its species that wants to come to my garden to enjoy its flowers and pose for me. At that time, I will remember that before photographing it, I will dedicate a few minutes to enjoy the beautiful experience of being able to observe closely such a beautiful butterfly.
