Inspiration from Others Equals Gifts for ALL
I do not enjoy Christmas shopping and it can get rather expensive when the extended family is in the mix. Not that everyone is expecting something from me, but I do like to give something as a token that I love them and am thinking of them during the season.
Here's a link to the video that inspired this project. I changed it ever so slightly because my intention was to hand sew a star on the top (which never happened).
I did make a grid work plan so that I could replicate it at another time, if I wanted. I am also trying to take notes so I can learn from each project and build a skillset if possible.
What I Learned
I first and foremost learned that cutting little squares is tedious work and there are other more efficient ways of getting the same results. I will show what I have learned in future posts but needless to say, this was a time consuming project. Live and learn.
If you watched the video, the teacher just grabbed a bundle of "charm packs" that are already pre-cut. I thought I would save some money by purchasing a couple of charm packs (which gives a greater variety of fabrics besides the pre-cut advantage) and so I also purchased larger "fat quarter" packages that I would just cut by hand. Whew! THAT took some time!
As you can see, I have a "helper" while I am cutting out all the squares for SIX of these Christmas tree wall hangings. I did keep one for our home. And I will probably add a star on the top and maybe even embroider something on the tree itself in the future.
Since this was my second (actually third if I count a doll quilt I sewed decades ago and have forgotten about until just now) quilt, I don't think I did that bad of a job. It's fun to have something hanging that I made myself (and I know that my family all have something similar in their homes, as well).
- All the photos are taken by me.
(If anyone can tell me how to flip the photos on this platform I would appreciate the help. I did it on my 10 year old computer but it didn't translate when I uploaded for some strange reason.)
Here's a link to an old post that shows my first ever quilt. It was inspired by a "t-shirt" quilt class that I took at the local community center.
Take care. Be well. And thanks for stopping by!!
