I was told that my daughter needed a pair of room shoes at day care. I wondered what to do. The one she has from last season is too small, one pair costs $20+ and she needs two for home and for daycare. $50 is a big expense! I could go to see one to used item shops or buy a cheaper pair but I thought it might be fun to make it by myself (as always).
保育ママに「秋冬になったら室内ばきを持ってきてね」と言われていたのを思い出し、ぴったりのサイズのものを持っていないんだよな、はてどうしたものかと考え始めました。今まで使っていたものの大きい版を買うと1足20ユーロちょっとで3000円弱。保育ママと自宅用に2足買うとなると50ユーロ弱で結構な出費になります。セカンドハンドのお店を覗きに行ってもいいのですが、おもしろそうなので作ってみることにしました。
I made a rough pattern from her shoe.
まず家にある靴を使って適当にそれっぽい型紙を作りました。

Using the basic pattern, I made a bit Japanese traditional shoe -ish pattern. On a cutting mat with 1cm by 1cm grid, it looks like follows. I drew a face on each piece so that I don't cut fabric inside out. Yes, once I did ;)
これを展開して、ちょっと和風の足袋ではないですがそんな雰囲気の型紙をおこしました。1cm四方の格子がプリントされたカッティングボードにおいてみるとこんな感じ。裏表を間違えないように顔を書きました。
As it was an experimental attempt, I adjusted some things spontaneously such as sewing the inner part a bit smaller. The pattern isn't include these adjustments yet and I have some more improvement ideas. But I think the pattern is somehow usable if you resize the photo with the 1cm x 1cm grid and print it out.
試験的に作ってみたので、内側を小さめするといった部分は縫う時に適宜調整していて、型紙には反映していません。ほかにも内側のかかと部分の高さを少し高くしたり小さな改善案があるのですが、格子の一辺を1cmに合わせて印刷すれば型紙として一応使えると思います。
Here are the materials and cost:
- Outside: Leftover from the sofa reupholstering project ;) $0.
- Sole: Backside of cowhide or suède to make it less slippy. 12 EUR for A4 size, four soles amount.
- Inside: Boa. 1.6 EUR/m. I was surprised to see the price as fabric is quite expensive in Germany. There are still plenty of the fabric left after I used few pairs amount.
材料と費用は以下の通り：
- 外側： 夏にソファーカバーを作った時の残り生地 w 0円。
- 靴底： 牛皮。A4サイズで12ユーロ（1500円ちょっと）で2足分とって少し余ります。裏革にするのは滑りにくくするためで、市販のルームシューズでも一般的です。
- 内側： ボア生地。生地が高いドイツでなぜか激安でメートル200円くらい、一足分とっただけではまだ無限にある感じです。
Interior fake suède can be for vegan/vegetarian option or to save cost. Initially I wasn't sure my home use sewing machine could handle leather but it worked fine with regular needle. I assume total cost can be fit in $10 or at most $15 with any fabric.
靴底の皮の部分はインテリアスエードに置き換えると少し費用を抑えてビーガン、ベジタリアンの人もOK。当初皮をうちのミシンで縫えるか心配しましたが、普通に縫えました。1足分の材料費は1000円以内におさまると思います。
I will do "long run test" with my daughter for few weeks. If the room shoes work fine, I may make a proper pattern and sell it ... just kidding. Ya, I saw a $5+ pattern had more than 1800 reviews on Etsy, which means the pattern earned roughly more than $9000! I know it's not that easy to make money. And as I'm a big fan of the open source & donation model, I may make an open source pattern.
数週間子どもに履いてもらってロングランテストします。よさそうだったら型紙をきちんとおこして販売するのもいいな、ぐへへへへなんて。というのもEtsy で見たら5ユーロの型紙で1800件以上レビューがついている人がいて、9000ユーロ、117万円・・・！？と目が$$になったこともあり。欲望のかたまりです。まあそう簡単ではないだろうし、私はオープンソースと寄付モデルのファンなので多分オープンソースにするかな。
