Seems odd to be posting on a monday...and so close to my bedtime (up at 3:30 am means I'm usually in bed by 8pm).
But, as I recently received a comment on an embroidery post from I've decided to really get into the habit of working on my skills.
I had a rough day working on the Barracuda Saturday. I was planning on an easy day of tightening the rear end bolts to their specified torque settings, but it proved to be a bit of a pain. It seemed harder than it should've been, then I broke a nut ...and then a bolt head snapped off... so I moved on.
That night, we walked to a local restaurant for ice cream, even though I had a bit of a headache. I went to bed early (with the headache), got up several times (with the headache), but still went to work Sunday (with the headache). It had gotten a little worse, I tried to get through the day, but it turned into a full blown migraine. I hadn't had one in a long time and this was the worse one ever!
I left work at 11 am...slept, got up for water, slept, got up for water...etc...for the rest of the day. By about 6 pm I was finally over the headache, but this morning I still had residual dullness behind my eyes.
I tell you, I was on top of the world today having survived this migraine. That was the worst 28-ish hours of my life!
So...yesterday was a wash, but today I was determined to get some needlework done!
It took me most of the day to get the time, but I pulled out my little kit of stuff and worked on a little something.
I bought this Reader's Digest book so long ago! But I had a plan in my head to just draw a few easy designs on a sampler of sorts and practice all the stitches that caught my eye. I'd like to start on page one and go all the way though, but I also have to be honest with myself, in regards to time.
So I drew out a little acorn, a larger acorn and a couple mushrooms.
I tried a new stitch for the top of the acorn, the coral stitch.
I like knotted and chain stitches the best, I think.
A little bit of satin stitching for the stem, stem stitch for the outline of the bottom half, some back stitching to outline the top and just a couple (I guess what you'd call a darning stitch) to fill in the bottom a little.
Again, it's just quick little design to try out some new stitches, practice my basics and to keep myself working on something regularly.
The best part is it keeps me from being able to mindlessly snack!
