Good morning Steemians
It's only a very simple post from me today...
One of my daughters decided to fix the very tight collar of her new Deadpool t-shirt ... without asking for advice first...
The photo below shows what I could do in the time available.
I explained that I can (as she knows) make the collar lower by cutting in the right place and then replacing that collar with a more relaxed one.
Although my temporary fix doesn't look great, it's better than the crooked keyhole made in a hurry... As a matter of interest I did point out that she accidentally cut too near the design...
Then there was the sleeves.
The short sleeve was too long so I just turned it twice along the edge of the hem and put some hand stitching to keep in place.
She was quite happy with the result.
I only showed you a daily occurrence in my household. Things need stitching quite often. I worry though. I worry that because my daughters know that I enjoy making things and fixing they often do not try to fix them by themselves.
I was therefore very impressed when I recently read about the Button Challenge. This is an initiative to try and get school age children to learn how to sew a button. For us in this group it may seem surprising, but according to an article on the website 31% of adults do not know how to sew a button.
So here's why I enter 's Givaway.
- I am just going to pick three reasons why I love #needleworkmonday and its importance in my life.
- Firstly, it reminds me to value the possibilities of making (hopefully) beautiful and practical garments and ornaments with my crochet, sewing or knitting machine and of course sewing by hand.
- The second reason is that it encourages me to show what I make because I have made many things and often I personally (but also others) take the skills for granted. Fixing this or sewing this or that; it all has value (not always monetary) and it is often skilfull - perhaps not always in my case but certainly what I see every Monday.
- Thirdly, to me it's the most important; #needleworkmonday is a window to what other makers are doing, making and planning to make without leaving my home... so I have access to a worldwide needlework exhibition every week and I get to interact with the makers !
- In this community have met many needleworkers who inspire me for different reasons every week. I shall mention a few of them:
, for instance, travels a lot and finds all sorts of interesting yarn to make wonderful mittens and hats.
always has action photos showing us her projects and includes both positive and negative issues that she's had to deal with.
and her lamp designs - I think they are works of art in themselves. Despite being really busy with her children and homestead
delights me with her quilting. Talking about being busy...
has shown us beautiful crocheted hats and is now making videos to help those beginning with the crochet skill... The list is endless but every week I am surprised by the skill and the willingness to help and to give great advice and encouragement as
always does.
- I have recommended #needleworkmonday as a supportive and welcoming community of crafters where you can learn how to interact, show your work and get constructive feedback and also great tutorials.
Thank you to and to
for starting the group. Also thank you for organising the giveaway - All the best to everyone 🌺
Happy #needleworkmonday
