Hi all, sorry im late again! I managed to finally get a long weekend with my parents to make up for not seeing them at christmas. And celebrated my 5 year anniversary with my wonderful man 😘😘
challenged us crafters to make baby hats during january for premature babies in neonatal units. I love this challenge!!
I havent quite finished my hats but think i will continue making them throughout the year when im looking for small projects. The ones below are nearly done, but i would like to make a few decorative bits like bows or flowers to complete them.
Crosheille suggested NICU to donate to, however i couldnt find a similar one in the uk that accepts handmade items. In scotland we have a Baby Box system, which provides a box of necessities to new parents, so i think i will contact them and see if they would take donations :)
The patterns i chose are super simple and i used chunky yarn, so each hat was no more than 10 rounds (including any edging rows). I had tons of bulky baby yarn that was in aldi last year, in some wicked variegated colours, with a 6mm hook. All patterns would be easily customised to child or adult sizes by adding extra increase rows.
Pattern 1 starts with 12 double crochet, then uses standard increases for 2 rows. Rows 4-7 are straight dc round. Slip stitch into first dc at the end of each row, and ch 3 to start next. The hat can be finished after row 7 - just fasten off - or a rim can also be crocheted on. I ad libbed here and done whatever i fancied :) some have a ribbed hem and some are single crochet rounds. Play about!
Pattern 2 is kinda like granny square clusters - its not my pattern and i cant find the link i used, but check out pinterest for some awesome hat ideas!
Anyways, thanks crosheille for challenging us all! Im sure we can do great things with our crafts 😁
