Nice to get out - Cool Weather and no Weeds yet
I managed to get out and do a little bit of hiking this weekend. I was also able to take along my metal detector and see if I was able to find any lost treasures along the way the weather was quite enjoyable it was up in the 50s and once you got into the hills and didn't matter how windy it was. I had originally planned to get out to do some fishing from the shore with a kayak this weekend but the high water and the high winds push me to the direction of doing some hiking.
I hit up one spot saturday, and one spot Sunday I have been to both the spots before and they're pretty heavily traveled. Second place is pretty small and I think I'm about hunted it out by now but I've still managed to find a couple of things every time I go out although it's getting harder and harder. I might have to start to explore really offbeaten places where I think maybe some kids had a fire or camped out at some point. Right now all the obvious fire pits and campsites have been metal detected but there is some big open area that could have been a possibility over the past 50 to 70 years.
Very Windy - Had lots of Birds of Prey flying close to the trails on the thermals!
The first one I went to is the more heavily traveled place that is built upon some of the best overlooks in the region. This has some fairly impressive bluffs with sweeping thermals that always get the eagles and birds of prey to soar on Windy days. There were some really nice birds flying although I couldn't quite tell what they were at first that would get really close to you as they swept up the side of the bluff in Inwood go directly over your head for riding a thermal back out and floating overhead.
- Terrible Shot #1
I have no idea why these photos were so terrible, the birds were much closer than this when I looked at them but for some reason my phone could not focus on them probably because they were moving too much - Terrible Shot #2
I feel like I'm back in 2005 digital camera area when I can't take a photo and everything's supposed to. The only reason I'm posting needs to be is because of how comically bad they are - One on the rock - Looks like a Turkey Vulture????
I tried to zoom in on one that was sitting on the Rock taking a break, the red beak made me think that it's possibly a turkey vulture although I'm not 100% positive. It looked pretty close to the state sitting there for some reason my phone just really did not want to take these pictures or I was much further away than I thought and they looked closer.
Final Overlook
At the end of the hike this was the final overlook where I took a big panoramic photo. It's a really nice overlook that hardly ever gets viewed because the trail down from here is not much more than a deer trail and in fact it kind of Peters out and then you just have to skip down five feet to get down to the main trail. I think most people who like this end a backtracking and going back the original way. This used to be off one of the main veins but after some trail we work getting to this trail is much more difficult as three out of the four ways have now been blocked off and you have to hike it a different direction and have to know what's there to find it
The Loot $0.41
Another impressive haul for my metal detecting. I managed to add 41 cents. A couple of these shiny ones were clearly surface finds where the college kids like to hang up hammocks and I believe their coins like to fall out cuz these two were right next to each other and we're clearly not whether at all. Found them when I was swinging the metal detector and it beeped I looked down and there they were the rest of these I found were scattered throughout the different areas summon random areas that you wouldn't think to metal detect where I just had it on and others were in the places that were clearly the campfires and possible sleeping areas for kids hanging out.
I have had these to the jars of all the coins I've metal detected at some day I'm going to take them out and pick them up to see if I can ever justify an upgrade on the metal detector. At this current rate I think it'll only take me 250 years and metal detecting to pay for a new metal detector.
Either way it was a great weekend outside coming around and getting some fresh air. I hope to continue to get some metal detecting in at 6:20
