Check your wallet now and see if you have the same question as I do. The stated payout amount I see on steemit is different from the received amount I get in my steemit wallet.
Steemit reward calculation
There are quite a lot of articles talking about how author reward and curation reward are calculated. I did some research on this topic for a few days. Some basic rules are not too difficult to understand. Let's put our focus on author reward first.
Out of the total payout amount, 75% goes to the author
Out of the author's 75%, 50% will be paid in SBD, another 50% will be paid in SP
For example, if the total payout amount you see is $100 (note that this $ sign is not USD but SBD)
100 X 75% X 50% = 32.5 SBD
Let's put the SP part aside first. Up to here, the expected amount of SBD received is very clear.
The actual payout
After the long awaited 7-days payout period, we finally see the payout of a post like this:
In above example, the payout details are:
Past Payout: $25.96
Author $20.09
(10.05 SBD, 6.70 SP)
Curators $5.86
$20.09, which is also roughly 77.4%, goes to the author. Out of this $20.09, 50% will be received in SBD. That is 10.05 SBD.
In that white pop-up box, everything is fine! Isn't it? Let's also verify the numbers in the wallet!
In the wallet, click Rewards / Author Rewards on the menu. You will then see:
In the author reward history, it is found that the actual reward received for that particular post is:
7.600 SBD, 1.625 STEEM and 6.676 STEEM POWER
I would consider that STEEM POWER part of the reward is correct (6.70 vs 6.676). But the SBD part is significantly lower (10.05 vs 7.600).
Therefore, I double check my recent posts and plot the numbers on a spreadsheet.
Summary of findings
Within the 21-days reward history, I had 9 recent posts covered. And out of these 9 posts:
- 3 posts received a smaller amount of SBD.
- 8 posts received a smaller amount of SP.
- 3 posts received some amount in STEEM. But this cannot cover the losses in SBD and SP.
It will not take more than a minute to check it out. On your steemit blog page, scroll down to a post at least created 7 days ago. Jot down the "Past Payout" details, and check it against your Author Reward History in your wallet.
I hope you won't say...
To clarify, above is my observation of my own blog and wallet. It does not necessarily a problem of steemit. In case any expert who knows the answer, please be kind enough to share your view in the comment.
