Some individuals have a tyrannical selfplex that is severely repressive because it is very fragile and constantly in a state of threatened overthrow. The subversive selfplex in such a brain may be an even more repressive and depressive one, a repository of all unacceptable and derogatory memes. When such a fragile selfplex is overturned through new meme infusion (e.g., failure memes) under stress, the new selfplex may manifest severe depression.
Such a memetic revolution may also result in a paralysis of the executive function, i.e., the ability to manipulate memes, resulting in psychotic disorganization.
Paralysis of the executive function puts the brain in a state of perpetual mind-wandering, wakeful dreaming. During dreaming, the brain re-organizes its memories, the content of dreams reflects aspects of memory consolidation taking place. When a mind is broken, the amount of work required to re-build it is large, and the body enters a a perpetual dream state as an inflammatory response.
Variations in cortisol (and other neurotransmitters) determine the functional status of hippocampal ↔ neocortical circuits, thereby influencing the memory consolidation processes that transpire during sleep. During the schizo-psychotic collapse, increased cortisol levels contribute to the re-building of the mind.
Much like anti-inflammatory pharmaceuticals can exacerbate disease, anti-psychotics prevent the re-building process. In other words, psychosis is necessary for the brain to re-build, and visual and auditory hallucinations are part of the memory consolidation process.
People fear what they do not understand, and they instinctively want to rid the body of fever, and by doing so they kill people.
