Yesterday, fifty-eight Palestinians were killed by the IDF. Around two thousand more were wounded. You'd think that the morning papers would be running headlines about it! Well, no. Not in Montreal, at least. Our local English-language paper ran with this:
When you went to the section they had relegated the story to, they squeezed in a blurb about Margot Kidder's death over and above the real, important news:
We live in troubled times when an actress' death and windsurfing are deemed more newsworthy than a bloody massacre committed by Israel. Oops, sorry, I forgot that we're talking about Israel. If they do it, then it's all right, isn't it? Palestinian lives don't matter, after all.
Well, as Murphy says in his 'Golden Rule', whoever has the gold, rules.
