BEIRUT, LEBANON (5:40 P.M.) - Minutes ago, the Syrian air defense forces shot down an armed drone that was flying towards the Russian Hmeimim Airbase in southwest Latakia.
According to a military source in Latakia, the Syrian air defense sounded their alarms after an armed drone was seen flying over the coastal province.
The military source said the drone originated from the Jisr Al-Shughour countryside in Idlib; this area is located in the southwestern part of the province.
Today's attempted attack by the jihadist rebels marks the first time since September that these militants have targeted the Latakia coast.
No further details have been released at this time.
