BEIRUT, LEBANON (12:00 P.M.) - The leader of the Progressive Socialist Party Walid Jumblatt caused an uproar in Lebanon this weekend when he tweeted that the presidential term of Michel 'Aoun has been "a failure."
"Our tragedy is a presidential tenure that has been a failure since its first moment," Jumblatt tweeted, as quoted by Naharnet.
Jumblatt slammed the Lebanese President over his move to return the Syrian refugees to Syria.
"The displaced of the earth enjoy neither Eid nor rest. Death haunts them in seas and deserts... They flee tyranny and wars for a better life only to be faced with the walls of hatred and racism that are getting higher everywhere," Jumblatt continued.
"In Lebanon they are calling for handing them over to the executioner (reference to Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad) under the excuse of the bad situations and our tragedy is a presidential tenure that has been a failure since its first moment," he added.
In response to Jumblatt's comments, several members of the president's Free Patriotic Movement slammed the veteran Lebanese politician, while also calling on him to apologize to 'Aoun.Posted from my blog with SteemPress : https://www.almasdarnews.com/article/jumblatt-slams-aoun-over-twitter-calls-lebanese-presidency-a-failure/
