BEIRUT, LEBANON (11:30 P.M.) - A historic meeting was held at the Bkirki Patriarchate between two Maronite Catholic foes, the National News Agency of Lebanon reported on Wednesday.
According to the NNA report, the Marada Movement leader Sleiman Frangieh and his counterpart from the Lebanese Forces Party Samir Geagea met in Bkirki on Wednesday to discuss a number of topics, including the strained relationship between their political blocs.
The two men agreed to put the past behind them and reconcile after years of political turmoil between the two parties.
Cardinal Bechara Boutros Rahi was also in attendance for the meeting, the NNA report said.
The animosity between the two politicians began decades ago when the Phalangists, led by Geagea, massacred Tony Frangieh (Sleiman's father) and 40 other people inside the resort town of Ehden.
Among those massacred by Geagea and his forces was the infant daughter of Tony Frangieh; Sleiman Jr. was not present at the time of the massacre.
Geagea would later acknowledge that he led the assault on Ehden, but denied carrying out the massacre.
