BEIRUT, LEBANON (10:40 A.M.) - Lebanon has asked Syria to supply their country with electricity in order to end their constant disruptions, Lebanese Speaker of Parliament Nabih Berri told Al-Intichar newspaper on Sunday.
The veteran politician said that his country and Syria are currently negotiating the supply of electricity to the residents of Lebanon.
Berri said that this is one of the reasons that it is important to maintain diplomatic ties with the Syrian government, despite protests from the March 14th political bloc.
In particular, Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri said that he will not form a government if diplomatic ties with Damascus are normalized.
Hariri and his political party, the Future Movement (var. Tayyar Al-Mustaqbal), have been opposed to any diplomatic relations with Syria, as they view Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad as an obstacle to peace in the region.
