Lewis Rawlinson, a 19 year old student from the United Kingdom was arrested after he was caught dealing LSD and MDMA at a music festival. The drugs were mainly imported from the Netherlands; Police intercepted a package that was most likely ordered from the Darknet Marketplaces although they're unable to identify exactly from where it came from.
"At his hearing at the Exeter Crown Court, the court heard that the suspect ordered the narcotics for resale since he needed the profits to pay for his expensive medical treatment. Rawlinson occasionally visited a specialist on Harley Street and paid for the private treatment for a dermatological condition and a progressive illness called Meibomian Eye Dysfunction which, he believed could not be treated properly on the National Health Service (NHS). According to the court documents, the defendant spent more than £1,000 traveling from his home in Ottery St Mary to the specialist dry eye clinics in London, and paying £500 on a Harley Street consultation."
Lewis was busted at Lockdown Festival in Powderham Castle on September 16th, 2016 after trying to evade security. They searched him, took his phone and found some MDMA, LSD and Ketamine in his bumbag. After police raided his home, they found more and also discovered a small amount of Valium and Xanax.
"“This was a strange case because you were seeking to raise money to meet medical bills for an eye condition which I accept you were suffering from,” Recorder Andrew Maitland, the presiding judge, said in a statement to the defendant. “The fact that you chose to do that in this way has brought you to court. You placed an order for drugs and your name and address were on the package. You were bringing these substances to the British drugs scene.”"
He plead guilty and was released on bail, but shortly after police intercepted a package filled with 149 grams of MDMA, 510 ecstasy tablets and 55.24 grams of Ketamine. Since he ordered from the darknet markets, most likely the order could've been placed before his arrest.
His attorney stated Lewis knew he screwed up and unfortunately wasn't aware of the very serious consequences facing him. He still wants to take his A-level exams, regardless of whether he's a free man or behind bars.
So what do you guys make of this? People will continue to buy LSD and MDMA, there will ALWAYS be a demand for it, and it's definitely nowhere near the same level as cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, bath salts, PCP, etc. With Lewis off the "streets", there's ten more dealers to replace him. Truthfully, I feel bad for the kid.
