1 December 1918 is the National Day of Romania and marks a historic event: the union of Transylvania with Romania.
Romania's national day was between May 1866 and 1947 on 10 May, then between 1948 and 1989 on 23 August. By law no. 10 of 31 July 1990, promulgated by President Ion Iliescu and published in the Official Gazette no. 95 of 1 August 1990, December 1 was adopted as a national day and a public holiday in Romania. This provision was resumed by the Romanian Constitution of 1991.
December 1, 1918 is the main event in the history of Romania, when the Great Assembly in Alba-Iulia voted for the union of Transylvania with Romania, as well as asking for a single national state. However, the first step was, in fact, between November 21 and December 4, 1918. When the Bessarabian Country Council proclaimed the Moldovan Democratic Republic. Then, on 24 January, the Declaration of Independence is adopted.
Happy birthday Romania!!
