The innocent children are on the street protesting against road accidents. They are checking the road permits and license of the drivers. They are stopping the vehicles which are not obeying the traffic rules. They are also stopping the parliament member’s vehicle and checking the required documents without any fear. This is the scenario of Dhaka city, the capital of Bangladesh from last few days.
This protest started when a bus ran over a number of students who were standing on footpath, causing two casualties and number of injuries. The accident took place on airport road on 29 July 2018.
This is an unusual protest what the nation did not see earlier. The school going students took the streets and chanting slogans against reckless driving, unfit vehicles, incompetent drivers, violation of traffic rules. They are painting the roads with slogans “we want justice” and blocking the roads with human chains.
Though the pedestrians are suffering due to this road blockage, they are supporting this protest thinking that same incident can happen to their kids as well. So, everyone is tolerating this short term problems hoping for big change.
We can call this protest as non-violence activities as the students are not hurting anyone rather help them to understand their responsibilities. The students are giving flowers to the traffic police as a sign of peace.
The students have submitted number of demands to the authority for the safety of passengers and pedestrians. The government is also reviewing the issues and assured them to see the case with top priority. Already the road permits of that accused vehicle company has been cancelled by the authority.
Finally, come to the headline what I mentioned that it’s a real shame for us that our kids are on street for the safety of their brothers and sisters. The same should have been done by us as a nation. I think it’s high time to think about the road safety by the authority as number of accidents are increasing every day.
Thanks for stopping by.
