Or at least that is what the idiots at some hard-line conservative sites would like to have you believe. You see, garbage reporting isn't just the product of liberals, although I do think they are more guilty of it than conservative groups are there is no denying that fake news exists across the political spectrum except probably for fringe parties like Reform and Green which nobody listens to or participates in anyway.
newsthud.com, ajc.com, kimt.com and a plethora of other websites that you have never heard of and probably will never hear from ever again due to their very limited viewership were basically falling all over themselves to lol at the viewership numbers that were reported for ABC, CBS, and NBC were far lower than the overall numbers for the same convention 4 years ago.
There is just one problem with the way in which they measured this: In the past 4 years something has changed dramatically in the world of broadcasting in America in that a vast majority of people don't have traditional cable anymore. It is extremely well known that people have ditched cable packages and moved over to streaming services such as Netflix, Hulu, or Amazon Prime. They get their news and entertainment primarily from online sources.
I tend to side with conservatives on most things but the title of this blog is "dumb news" and this is dumb news on the other side of the aisle. When conservatives talk about how many people watch a Trump rally, they include all methods of watching it such as the livestreams and various online channels that make it available for the public to tune in for free.
There is no denying that the DNC was boring and probably a bit weird since there was no audience for the most part and that almost all of the "infomercials" were pre-recorded. If they wanted to report about that (and many outlets did) I think that would have been more appropriate. But to deliberately lie about viewership when you know damn well that most people moved over to online services dramatically in the past 4 years is just dishonest and oh-so-typical of today's media.
They went on and on about how only 6.13 million viewers tuned in to all three networks combined, dropping 42% from the same broadcast in 2016. They make no mention of online views. However, the left isn't much better in this regard as they totally glance over the fact that there is a difference between TV and online viewers and instead lump them all into the same category with headlines of how the convention brought it nearly 30 million viewers.
That's really different than 6... what's going on here? What's going on is that both sides are lying. The liberal numbers constitute unique views that happened after the fact, and even for just a short amount of time. This statistic can easily be rigged as well as there are banks of millions of IP addresses that can be spoofed specifically for the purpose of "pumping up the numbers" as far as something like a "view count" on a YouTube video is concerned.
So once again, since the media can not be trusted to do anything, we don't really know how many people watched this thing (I didn't watch it.) This is just sadness in a shell really as far as media is concerned. This is a trivial thing that doesn't even matter and they go to great lengths to lie about this. How can we ever trust them when they are actually reporting on something that actually matters?
