Two unlikely partners, the UK and Indian governments, have teamed up for a massive investment in clean energy. Together, Lightsource BP and a private equity fund the Everstone Group have launched a $711 Million fund in order to build clean energy. The fund is shared equally between the UK and the Indian governments.
The fund will focus on areas such as wind and solar power, as well as building electric vehicle charging stations. Over 40% of Lightsource is owned by British Petroleum, meaning the oil industry is taking an even larger foray into low carbon power sources. Hopefully, this can help push renewable energy into prominence even earlier.
In 2016, over $330 Billion was poured into clean energy worldwide. The largest investor was China was a wide margin.
