Disclaimer: an image of one of the wards in JFC where the patients have mental disorders.
In the Philippines, nursing students are exposed to working in many government hospitals, although it is a requirement for nursing schools to have their own hospitals. As general nursing is what it's being taught, students are then exposed to different areas like orthopaedic hospital, mental hospital; Manila in particular have a lot of general hospitals and lying-in centers but only one mental hospital.
Although I went to a private school in Manila, an exposure to the only mental hospital in the country was included. Some wards were similar to the picture above. Issues here are staffing, no funds and abandonment. Jose Fabella Center almost closed but the DSWD intervened recently.
This is just one of my facebook feeds today, and this post is from one of the social media supporter of President Duterte, Doc. Lorraine Marie T. Badoy. Since becoming as the assistant secretary of the department of social welfare and development (DSWD), she have been updating us Filipinos of real situations around the country.

In contrast to the previous administration, the present Secretary Judy Taguiwalo have been very open with the people especially with the usage of DSWD's funds. Taking over Jose Fabella Center, some donations, not just monetary, from the Filipino community are still needed.
