This came across my social media timeline today. It represents the worst of ignorant social media posts which are virally shared, but lack any logic.
Please help me decipher...
Women: "Can I have birth control?"
Congress: "No."
Women: "I couldn't get birth control, so I got pregnant. Can I have an abortion?"
Congress: "No."
Women: "You prevented me from having an abortion so I'm carrying the fetus, but my employer won't provide reasonable accommodations and is threatening to fire me. Would you please pass the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act?"
Congress: "No"
Women: “What about a guarantee that my health care cover pregnancy as a medical condition?”
Congress: “No”
Women: “Well, since the baby’s father was just as involved in the process of creating her as I was, can I have assurance that he will stick around and carry half of the responsibility, both emotionally and financially?”
Society: “You are really funny lady. Should have kept your legs closed.”
Women: "I had the baby, but I'm out of work because pregnancy is not considered to need reasonable accommodations. Can I have WIC and food stamps until I get back on my feet?"
Congress: "No."
Women: "I found a job, but it doesn't offer me or my child insurance. Can I have government guaranteed insurance?"
Congress: "No."
Women: "My kid got sick and I got fired because I missed time caring for him. Can I get unemployment?"
Congress: "No."
Women: "I'm having a hard time getting my kid from school at dismissal time, because of my work schedule. Can we fund after-school programs?"
Congress: "No."
Women: “I'm prepared to work to support my family. Can you make sure that a full-time job's minimum wage is enough to do that?”
Society: No. But what's the matter with you and your family, that working two jobs can't lift you out of poverty? And what kind of a mother are you, letting someone else watch your child while you work? If your child doesn't do well in school or gets in trouble, it's entirely your fault. You shouldn't have had a child if you weren't prepared to take care of her."
My Response
A 12-pack of condoms is only $5!
Amazon's "Subscribe-n-Save" makes it even cheaper! How is Congress preventing her from buying these?
Which Congressmen are responsible for her inability gain access to such widely available, highly effective birth control?
Also, how is Congress preventing abortions? The US aborts nearly a million babies a year!
The rest of this is just drivel, Why wouldn't a woman be able to get WIC, food stamps or unemployment? Did Congress prevent women's eligibility to these programs?
