Hello people! How are things? I hope you are all doing fine!
So as you have already read in the title, this is just a quick post about some positive news that were announced by a local channel a few hours back.
Antikythera is a small Greek island lying on the Southwest Aegean Sea and is located between Crete and Peloponnese. According to the reporter (who made a really nice reportage presenting the sights and the beauty of the island) there are only 18 permanent residents left.
Many of you might not know, but even though we (Greeks) are approximately 11 million people, more than half of this population is living in the capital aka Athens.
The result of course is that Athens has become an overcrowded city, while most of the small islands and even villages on the main land are deserted, since most of the teens are looking for a way to come and live in the capital where they think "opportunities lie"
Antikythera is mainly known for the first computer that was ever created and could predict the position of the stars. The Antikythera Mechanism
So the local major decided not to let that island "die". Instead, he contacted a reporter and announced to the news that locals are looking for 4 families to migrate to their island supposedly they have at least 4 children. And they are willing to pay each family 500 Euros per month for life long. In addition they will provide them free houses to live and they also guarantee that they will have a job from day 1. They believe that children is the future and they are trying to "rebuild the economy of the island so that it can become an attractive destination not only for summer holidays but for permanent residency too
Unfortunately this is the only link to the news that I could find. As I said before, I watched it on the news a few hours ago, so hopefully by tomorrow there is going to be more information available to us all...including myself
So if this sounds tempting to you and you need a drastic change in your life... go ahead!
