Regency of North Aceh is one of the rice producing districts in Aceh Province. So far North Aceh has become one of the regencies / cities in Aceh with seeds in the rice sector with an area of 45,485 hectares consisting of 36,810 irrigated rice fields, 8,246 rainfed rice fields, 204 swamps and 225 swamps of lebak as the main rice supplier for the endangered Sumatran province.
Rice production in North Aceh, he explained, is not only supplied to the needs of the people of Aceh, but some are also sent to North Sumatra. This means that North Aceh rice production becomes one of the leading agricultural products, even for 2016 we will do the development of paddy fields again covering 2000 hectares, to increase the existing land area of 45,485 hectares.
Unfortunately, this is not supported by adequate irrigation development. This condition is further compounded if the dry season hit the District with the most Regency in this province of Aceh.
As it happens today, Tens of thousands of hectares of paddy fields in Aceh Utara regency are threatened with crop failure due to drought in a number of sub-districts within the district. Farmers are starting to worry that their crops will suffer crop failure or puso.
Especially before the holy month of Ramadhan, this rice supply greatly affects the life of the farmers in the area. Where some people of Aceh Utara still live from the agricultural sector, especially rice farmers.
Farmers in Pirak Timu district, North Aceh are now plagued by concerns due to the long dry season that hit the area. Currently, 1,400 hectares of land (Ha) of rice fields begin to crack due to drought, even rice that has been planted is also threatened to die.
