Were just people with a different political opinion than you. Extremism may already be the word historians use to describe 2017. Lets make sure its Islamic and not right or left wing. The reason we are better than the middle east is, well because we don't follow the backwards teachings of the Koran but even more so because political violence is almost unheard of here while in the middle east violence is politics. Which country would you rather live in. Afghanistan or the USA.
