Ok hivers, this is crazy news. An actual piece of the moon, which weighs around 13kgs and discovered in the Shahara Desert, is going up for sale as announced by the auction house Christie's.
And the price? Only a meager 2.5 million dollars as asking price!

Well we have had some pretty interesting things come up for auctions in the past, but this for me is by far the craziest. According to Christie's, this piece of moon rock was
probably struck off the surface of the moon by a collision with an asteroid or comet and then showered down on the Sahara desert
And as for the authenticity of the rock, it was compared with samples brought back to earth by the Apollo missions to the moon and scientists seems to be certain about its origin after extensive testing.
FYI, around 650 kgs of moon rocks are supposed to be on the earth as of now, which also includes the 400 kgs got back by the moon missions in the 60's and the 70's. But this particular piece was one which 'fell' onto earth.
And as with any meteorite, it was found by an anonymous guy who found it in the desert after travelling all the way from the moon. Around 386242.6 KMS (240,000 miles)!
And as Christie's head of science and natural history, James Hyslop said,
The experience of holding a piece of another world in your hands is something you never forget
So if you have a few millions to spare, go for it, anonymously if you want, and experience the feeling of holding a 'piece of another world'!
