Chinese commercial street technology adopts facial features
China has launched a face-recognition payment system on Wuma Street in Wenzhou City, east of China, becoming the first to adopt the technology in the Asian country, China Daily reported.
The system, which is the result of cooperation between the local authorities and Ant Financial, the online shopping giant Alibaba, owns the Alibay payment platform in nearly 20 shops on Wuma Street, according to the same newspaper.
Customers will be able to pay for their purchases through the Dragon Fly system, which uses 3D cameras connected directly to the Alibay platform. The payment process will be made in as little as 10 seconds.
"This system has the ability to distinguish between real and photographic images" up to 99.99%, "said Yang Ping, vice president of Antin Financial.
The Wenzhou government has announced plans to use the technology extensively in other parts of the city.
