Footage from Turkey
Breakdown
The location of president Erdogan is unknown. Some reports claim that he was seen at Istanbul airport, others that he was denied access to Istanbul Airport and fled the country.
There are reports of the parliament building being bombed.
Turkish Navy commanders say they don’t support the coup attempt, indicating that the military is split. It is unknown how much support the coup has within the military.
Turkey’s history is riddled with coups. There were coups in 1960, 1971 and 1980, and a "post-modern" coup in 1997. This time it seems to be somewhat special. It was believed that Erdogan had managed to weaken the military. It may seem that the group attempting the coup conists of a small but powerful group of people.
Threat of civil war have been mentioned, but still too early to call. Fear of islamist terrorist cells taking the opportunity to stir up chaos. There are reports of dissatisfaction with Erdogan's rule, terrorism, refugees etc.
Reports from tourist destination Alanya says that things are quiet. People believe that the coup will be put down.

Rumors of involvement - Muhammed Fethullah Gülen
Turkish Government claims that Fetullah Gülen, a Turkish islamist, is behind the coup. Gülen himself denies involvement.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fethullah_G%C3%BClen
From his Wikipedia page:
Muhammed Fethullah Gülen (born 27 April 1941) is a Turkish preacher, former imam, writer, and political figure. He is the founder of the Gülen movement (known as Hizmet meaning service in Turkish). He currently lives in self-imposed exile in the United States, residing in Saylorsburg, Pennsylvania.
Gülen teaches a Hanafi version of Islam, deriving from Sunni Muslim scholar Said Nursî's teachings. Gülen has stated that he believes in science, interfaith dialogue among the People of the Book, and multi-party democracy. He has initiated such dialogue with the Vatican and some Jewish organizations.
Gülen is actively involved in the societal debate concerning the future of the Turkish state, and Islam in the modern world. He has been described in the English-language media as an imam "who promotes a tolerant Islam which emphasises altruism, hard work and education" and as "one of the world's most important Muslim figures."
Gülen was an ally of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan before 2013. The alliance was destroyed after alleged 2013 corruption investigations in Turkey. Erdogan accused Gülen for being behind the corruption investigations. He is currently on Turkey's most-wanted terrorist list and is accused of leading what the current Turkish officials call the Gulenist Terror Organisation (FETO). A Turkish criminal court issued an arrest warrant for Gülen. Turkey is demanding the extradition of Gülen from the United States. However, so far there is no Turkish court decision that charges Gulen or his followers with any terrorist activity.
