I've heard stories about 'fatbergs' in the London sewers before, but this one is a monster at 130 tonnes!
It seems people will happily put inappropriate things down the drain and not care about the consequences. I expect some food establishments will flush down fat and waste oil rather than pay to have it disposed of and then others chuck nappies/diapers down there too. A lot of the London sewers are Victorian and probably barely cope as it is.
I don't envy those who will have to spend weeks clearing this.
My job can be boring, but at least I'm not wading in that crud.
