The English had a choice...to decisively deal with the politicians, burrocrats, academics, and "journalists" subverting their country, or to play the "it can't happen here" game
lack of action has consequences
I wonder how many Englishmen worried about what their neighbors thought when it was time to act...or maybe thought "somebody else" would take care of the problem...or didn't want to be thought of as an "extremist"...or were looking after their paycheck
