I have long feared that something like this could happen to Gab. It was presented as a free speech alternative that was open to ALL. However, left-wingers would not compete with right-wingers on a level playing field, thus would not join Gab. This eventually meant that Gab became something like a far-right echo chamber; even if providing a superior user experience to what Twitter could provide, it was doomed to become a target and a scapegoat. But when it started stealing users from mainstream networks, you knew something worse would happen.
