This has been a long time in the pipeline, with much chatter over whether Trump would agree to release them on the first date they are available to leave the CIA/FBI archives. He has confirmed today that he will in fact release them 'subject to the receipt of further information' - which unfortunately gives him wiggle room to change his mind before they are released to the world.
The classification on the documents has a 25 year expiry date, but the President has the option (and, some would argue, the expectation) to keep it under wraps for another 25 years. In fact, only yesterday did Politico publish a piece saying that the chances of Trump releasing the documents are slim.
My guess is that they will be redacted beyond legibility and completely devoid of all 'juicy' information, but I certainly hope I'm wrong. Imagine if they are legit with no blackout at all, and we can see for ourselves the true story of how President Kennedy, who famously declared that he wanted to 'scatter [the CIA] into a thousand pieces', met his demise. Deep state heads would explode!
Here's hoping!
