For months or even years on this blogging/social media platform, there have been tons of posts written about and virtual fights carried because of one of the most burning topics that Steem has ever had. The trending page. This page is somehow a business card for our blockchain and Steemit in my opinion and not always was the best it could be.
The creme de la creme of what this world has to offer can be found there, theoretically. Hard to believe though that we attained perfection with it nowadays but that's how it is considered, the trending one, and that's the image that every new user has when opening steemit.com for the first time. At least that's how I felt when entering this world and for a while I even tried fitting in such patterns created by that page. Bad move... as I didn't fit in any pattern.
The case of many fights and use of downvotes in regards of the trending page was that lots of posts got there thanks to bid bots and they would not deserve that. Now, since we are in the #newsteem era and bid bots no longer STEEM for their love you get there pretty much if "you deserve it" and if you have wealthy friends around you.
The topic of this post is not about casual users being featured there after having a hit with a great post. It is about users that get there everyday thanks to being part of a circle full of "heavy weight" friends that have them on auto voter and boost them and their posts on the trending page almost every day. Nothing to be blamed or anything that I would consider an abuse. I am not aiming at that.
They're lucky enough to have powerful friends to whom they earned their trust and all they have to do now is to do their thing... and post... about what they feel like. What is annoying though in my opinion is that you get to see almost everyday pretty much the same users and that's why I ask myself: doesn't have Steem any other content creators that would deserve a spot in there? Even for a day...
Sure it has, but they might not have been that lucky by now to get on the front page of the revolution of social media that we call Steem. Things might change and it's not that hard to make these changes.
No disrespect towards any user that got recently on the trending page as I haven't seen any shit post being boosted over there lately, but I would really like to have much more diversification and to see new users featured pretty much every day. There is fresh content and of good quality of course, other than the current one, to be voted and featured on the trending page for sure. It just needs a bit of search from the ones willing to work a bit in this direction.
For that to happen and to make this post as straight to the subject as I can I would propose to have a limited numbers of hits on the trending page per week or even month and I would keep posts there for a maximum of 6 hours. This way much more users that deserve a place there would be promoted through the trending page and we would have a more divers and fresh welcoming page.
Of course in the cases of really hot news that have tons of upvotes upon them even from a user that has been already featured during the delimited time span by the system, through some tweaks or thresholds, he could get a new entry. Something for like posts with over $100 in rewards or so. The really HOT ONES.
As a general line though I would prefer to see more people, new people, every day on the trending page. This way I would visit it more often and consider that others would do the same. Nobody likes eating same food everyday and reading on Steem is time and energy consuming. I know that people getting there are putting efforts into their blogs but they're not the only ones doing that. This Steem ocean is really divers and worth diving into it.
Now if any bid bot owner such as ,
,
,
,
or any other that I am not aware of, will ever read this post, considering that now they're manually curating and working for a great #newsteem, it would be nice to "swipe pages" a bit more in search for good content and I assure them that there are plenty of others than the usual users that deserve to get there and are a pleasure to read. They're just a swipe away one could say.
If they don't have time to do that I can offer myself as a curator and spend a bit of time daily searching into Steem's "daily treasury" for fresh new content. Promise to never ever upvote myself or use that voting power subjectively only on close ones. I don't even deserve to get there :))), but there are quite a few that never got there and would deserve a spot on the red carpet. Even for a day.
