Bear Mountain
A beautiful park
I was recently in northeastern New Jersey, and along with visiting some cool old towns on the Hudson River like Cold Springs, I stopped to explore Bear Mountain State Park. There are all kinds of activities available in the area. I loved seeing the grand old heavy wood lodges there in the main complex.
We took a drive up the mountain and turned onto the Perkins Memorial Drive to the summit. A stone watchtower sits at the top, overlooking the surrounding country in all directions. Historic photos and stories line the walls inside the tower as you walk up the stairs. It is a great place to hike from or just take in the views from the benches set among the gentle rounded rocks.
The area has many hiking trails, including access to the Appalachian Trail.
