What a week on the Devikin sphere! After a month of playing combat PvP, we were expecting rewards that should be given after the time expired. Suddenly, a few hours before it expired, an announcement across Devikins social media accounts said that rewards would be delayed for two weeks after an exploit was discovered that affected ranking, levels, and the overall playing experience of all users. After that, as expected, chat rooms were bombarded by complaints and rants among users. Nevertheless, the developers of the game took charge and said that it would take time to investigate the exploits and that all rewards would be given when everything settled down.
Well, I'm not going into any further details about it because, as of this writing, there is still no final announcement regarding that matter.
Attributes, Affinities, Personality, and Level of a Devikin
One aspect of the game is the training of Devikins. All Devikins start as embryos with inherited attributes. Hatching it will give you the chance to increase its attributes for one week, to a maximum of 100. The attributes are vitality, power, fortitude, speed, and sanity. The goal is to complete all of these within one week. After that, the only way to increase those is by leveling up, which is governed by Devikins' Affinities. We define Devikins by their overall sum of affinities. These are common (0–29), uncommon (30–34), rare (35–40), mythic (41-49), and eldritch, which have perfect affinities and an overall sum of 50. This is important because the cost of each group is different. There is a wide difference in price between a rare, a mythic, and an eldritch.
Leveling Mechanics
In this picture, Devikin is a stoic with an OA (overall affinity) of 40. At first, all Devikins are at level 1. Leveling up increases all its attributes based on the affinity points of each attribute. A bonus of plus 2 to its sanity will add to its affinity, making it 12 because it has a stoic personality. In the game, leveling has some item requirements and the burning of Devikin.
Ideas on Choosing the Right Attributes, Affinities, and Personality...
Just a disclaimer, these tips were just my strategy and cover only a part of combat strategies in Devikins. For this post, I'll only give some idea of what attributes, affinities, and personalities a Devikin has that are best for combat. Other aspects that define Devikins' overall strength are his level, weapon, skills, and equipment. During combat, the player's strategy and ancestry weakness or resistance also have a huge impact. Attribute affinities and personality are inherited in a Devikin. You can change weapons, skills, and equipment anytime, but not those three.
Speed matters...
The idea is that the first one to hit has the advantage. This is governed by Devikin's speed. The Devikin with the highest speed attribute will most likely go first. While leveling up, a Devikin with 10 points in affinity speed will see its attribute of speed increase by 10. If this Devikin has a sassy personality, there will be a bonus of plus 2 in its speed affinity, so it actually has 12 points in its affinity for speed. Because this is a turn-based combat, the one that can hit first is assumed to have an edge.
In the picture are my own two Common Devikins, OA 29. Both are at level 21, and I used them in the Pauper League, which is for Common Devikins (OA of 29 below) only. One is focused on speed and a balance of power and tankiness, and the other is a tank-focused Devikin with power. They are both nerdy, which gives them both their fortitude plus a bonus of 2 in affinity.
No waste of attributes, affinities, and the right personality...
In combat, physical weapons scale in power attribute, and magical weapons scale in sanity attribute. You can only choose one weapon per Devikin in a battle, so you can forget, let's say, the sanity of a Devikin and just focus on power. This is important if you see Devikins in terms of cost. There were wide differences in price among groups of Devikins. Eldritch was the most expensive, followed by Mythic, and the cheapest were Common.
Take a look at this.
On the left is a Mythic Devikin with OA 41, and on the right is an Eldritch with OA 50. The big difference between the two is price. Eldritch can be 100 times or more expensive than a Mythic OA 41. At level 1, with the same weapon, skills, and equipment, they are equal, but while leveling up, the Eldritch will increase its gap in sanity attributes, giving it an edge in magic power. A gap of 20 in attributes is already crucial. Both will use magical weapons because their personalities of shy and polite are best with magic weapons. There is only a one-point difference in their sanity's affinity. At level 100, an Eldritch will have a 100-point gap in sanity power. In this comparison, I completely ignore the power attribute and affinity because both will use magic weapons on which the power attribute has no effect.
Other aspect that are not cover here which have effect on attributes are special skills, weapons with equipment, critical hits and other bonuses
That's it for now. I'll be writing more about Devikins next time.
