This is my first foray into Token-based art work. I studied a Masters Degree in Visual Art and Design at the University of South Australia over the course of five years. Through that time, I produced an enormous body of work while specialising in Digital Art (or as the university called it, "New Media") and photography.
I produced work that ranged from pictorial to abstract - and exhibited some work at graduate shows and a few independent exhibitions. There were no sales to collectors at these exhibitions, and through moving house several times all physical manifestations of art work were destroyed, lost, or - as I don't regret (As this is digital art) - corporeal copies destroyed.
The first piece I've released is "Equus", but I will be tokenising other works, including video work and other moving picture that acted as experimental forays into the moving image. I will go into much further depth about these as I explore my archives and revisit the thoughts and emotions I was feeling at the time of creating the work.
While creating these tokens, I am wondering what the impacts are to the art collecting world in a traditional sense, and especially in the unique environment of something like COVID-19 - where gallery shows and physical work are reduced in scale, size, and sadly, patronage.
