Leafs Win! Leafs Win! Leafs Win!
What Was It Like to Follow The Leafs From Europe in 1995?
When I first moved to Switzerland from Canada way back in 1995 it was horrible being a Leafs fan! No Internet, no newspaper coverage besides the odd listing of a few scores in the International Herald Tribune.

What Did I do to Get my Fix?
- Once in a while someone would send me the sports page from an old newspaper!
- During the playoffs I'd pay my nephew to send me a VHS tape of the games! Expensive and 10 days late!
Finally The Internet Came!
At the beginning there was no home internet but I'd go to an internet cafe and pay about $10 for half an hour. I'd search for articles and then pay 20 cents a page to have them printed so that i could read them later!
Finally in about a997 I could get internet at home but it was dial-up with a router and soooo slow! Still better than nothing!
What About Today With Fast Internet?
- I can read any paper on line
- I can listen to sports radio live or clips of my favorite shows!
- I have a subscription to NHL.tv
- I follow the team at this awesome Blog site: http://hfboards.hockeysfuture.com/forumdisplay.php?f=17
Living in Europe I now miss nothing with the only disadvantage being that most games start at 1 a.m. my time. I often wake up in the middle of the night and watch a piece of the game
