I haven't posted in a couple of days now, but that's only, because I have been really busy.
A lot has been going on, and I every day I think "I should write about this", but then I think of the task of actually trying to explain what I'm doing, and I get overwhelmed and don't.
But today is different. I'm going to tell you what I have been doing.
And from now on, I'm not going to put so much pressure on myself.
I'm just going to post whether I think you'll think it's awesome or not.
So, here goes.
I started a bounty website.
The website is http://nkammuta.com/
Basically, the goal of the website is that people will post challenges with a bounty.
My intention is that the challenges will be related to translating academic concepts into the Igbo language.
Here is the video I made explaining my mission:
The first challenge I put out there was for people to translate Newton's 2nd Law of Motion into the Igbo langauge.
I got a few people who made some attempts. Such as this guy:
People had difficulty. So, I made a video trying to give advice to them about how to go about it.
I held a webinar to try to break down the fundamental principles of the equation hoping it would sink in better and produce better results.
All in all, it seemed that the biggest issues people kept having was in understanding the definitions. Especially the word "mass". It seemed that the word "mass" seemed to confuse people. Here is one video of someone trying to reason through his understanding of the word:
And here is another person who is encouraging others, and also uses metaphors to explain the concept:
All in all, this project is really great, and I'm having a lot of fun with it. I highly recommend that if here are any Igbo people out there who also happen to be into Physics, check out http://nkammuta.com or get in touch with me personally to try to solve the solution. I personally donated the $20 bounty, but if anyone else is interested in sponsoring this effort to encourage Afro-literacy through increasing the bounty or any other financial contributions the same invitation stands. You may contact me personally, or just visit the site and there is a paypal-powered donation button that can be used to increase the bounty on the outstanding problem being solved.
I hope to see some of you there!
