I interrupt my own work on another post to bring to you this prime example of media manipulation of the public perception.
I saw an article by Global (programming) news
"Alberta’s ecosystems and the natural beauty they create are still largely intact but parts are disappearing at rates that exceed deforestation in the Amazon rain forest."
That's shocking! I'm alarmed now. Please continue.
*"Its most complete study on the human footprint across Alberta has found that 70 per cent of the province is still untouched. Most of that is in the north.
At the turn of the century, just over one-quarter of Alberta was disturbed by agriculture, communities, forestry, energy and other developments. Now, the total is almost 30 per cent."*
Wait so 70% is untouched that's quite a bit. Since the turn of the century, disturbed land has gone up from just over a quarter to almost 30%. Meaning less than a 5% increase. But that doesn't sound scary, the way they word it sounds scary.
(Edited)
Something I forgot to point out before I posted was the intentional and frequent use of the word disturbance/disturbed. Disturb skready has a negative connotation, but It's just vague enough to leave you (the already triggered reader) to interpret the worst of what it insinuates. See?
It goes on to throw out some carefully worded and confusing crap.
Skipping forward! Ah here we go!
"In Alberta’s oilsands, developed land has increased by 75 per cent. The report points out that’s still only 8.4 per cent of the entire forest ecosystem in the area."
That's still like a drop in the ocean. Now here's the important part to focus on. Watch the wording here.
Did you catch it? If you didn't, no sweat. I gotcha.
The use of "human" twice in this (blown up) quote. That's to program you to think it is you that is to blame. You are the reason for this (tiny) increase you horrible monster!
No this has nothing to do with corporations and government making deals without your knowledge. No! It's all because of you! It's the human beings all clustered together in their urban enclosures who are responsible for this (tiny) increase.
It rambles on some more trying to sound scary. Skipping ahead and bingo!
“What you’re seeing is a very significant rate of change in the foothills,” said Dyer, who pointed out that less than two per cent of that region is in a conservation area."
"Dyer said having so much untouched land left in the province means conservation still has a chance."
Cough! #agenda2030 Cough! Cough!
Don't get me wrong. I want to keep the land clean and the biological ecosystems healthy. I just don't want the government to have any part of that. We are adults, we don't need big daddy gov going in and sectioning off land and creating no human zones.
So they can do whatever they fucking want with the land and resources. While we're all crammed into our 200x200 living spaces in the megatropolis (more to come on that in a future post).
Anyways just wanted to point out that juicy little piece of mental manipulation.
Thanks for reading!
