It is now widely known that modern-day Gulags exist in North Korea. The camps are reported to be large enough to fit approximately 100,000 people. Recorded conditions include inhumane treatment and an alarming death rate. The prisoners are subject to treatment so inhumane that they often die from the torture methods alone. Such practices include long term starvation, severe beatings, human experimentation, accidents, and plague. Those who try to escape are publicly executed, even children are not exempt from this punishment. Many inmates are so desperate for nutrition that they attempt to survive on a diet of grass alone.
