On 18 July 1984 a silver treasure was found aboard the wreckage of SAMSON, Norway's most recent find of Danish-Norwegian silver coins. The SAMSON was a Westindia-man led by Captain Niels B. Randulff, who died under dramatic circumstances on December 11, 1786. The mystery occurred outside Homborsund, between Grimstad and Lillesand. Hard wood from West-Africa is still to be found on the wreck-site, but the coins were taken up and allowed to be sold by the finders. The ship is pictured here.
